In Japan, traditional pouches were used to carry rice offerings to temples during religious ceremonies, or as gifts for friends or relatives. This is a modern rendition of those pouches, suitable for use as a project bag, gift bag, or even a purse.

Our kit includes the paper pattern designed by Karen Stevens as well as the fabric pack to make the bag.

The fabric pack includes: fabric for the bag's exterior and interior, patches for over stitching, a drawstring cord, and sashiko thread for embellishing.  The main interior/exterior fabrics are durable and beautiful fabrics such as: linen canvas, Essex linen, denim, painted linen canvas, vintage toile, chambray, and other wovens. The patches are special fabrics that may include hand-blocked prints, vintage Japanese fabrics, Nani Iro linen, Liberty of London lawn, Merchant & Mills linen,  kantha quilt scraps, and other hard-to-find pieces. The drawstring is either cotton, linen, or leather, and the thread is cotton sashiko thread.

Each kit contains the materials similar to those in the photo. All are carefully curated; the kits are sourced from small stocks of interesting materials that we find, thus variations are inherent.

Dimensions: the finished bag is 6"x 6" x 6"
