Michigan Sterling Silver Earrings

"Flaunt your Michigan pride or relive that wonderful vacation "Up North" with these fun earrings. One features a cut-out of the upper peninsula, the other a cut-out of the lower peninsula. How many states can you do that with?!? The Michigan charms are made of sterling silver that has been textured and domed to catch the light. These earrings are approximately 1.75 inches long from the highest point on the ear wire to the base of the Michigan charm. The Michigan charm itself is about 5/8th of an inch. These earrings will come to you gift boxed, whether it is a gift for yourself or a loved one. Each piece that leaves my workshop is marked on the back with "IE" so you know it is an IndigoEdenArts original and ".925" which certifies that it is made of sterling silver.I designed and hand-made the original silver charms with their hammered texture then had multiples cast off that original. Next I wired them up with a chip of Leland blue, which is a glass-like byproduct of the iron industry in Northern Michigan. Well over 100 years ago this byproduct, called slag, was dumped in Lake Michigan. It has been washing up on shore ever since, especially near its namesake town of Leland, MI. Jewelers and rockhounds have been collecting and using this "stone" for years. In my limited experience, it seems to be getting harder to find, especially cut and made into beads. There is a lot of variety to Leland blue so yours may not look exactly like these photographs, but it will be similar. My beads range from light blue to grayish to greenish blue to almost turquoise. They often have white, gray or black inclusions in them. I take care to be sure that each earring has coordinating stone". Lorelei H. Scott of Indigo Eden Arts
