This tile was adapted from a design for a book cover that Dard Hunter created during his time at Roycroft. We think it looks great with the Bell Flower and the Little Journeys designs, also created during that period.
William Joseph "Dard" Hunter (1883-1966) was primarily devoted to the study of papermaking. His designs for the Roycroft community in East Aurora, New York, helped define the Arts & Crafts movement in America. His art and design has been an ongoing inspiration to us.
Actual tile size: 3-13/16" x 7-13/16"
Tiles are approximately 5/8″ thick and have a notch in the back for hanging unframed.
Motawi polychrome tiles are striking individual art pieces as much as functional tile installation accents. We’re told that our tiles will give you serious cred in gift-giving circles. And each one is made by hand and with heart in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We embrace variation and handmade beauty. The bold heft of each Motawi tile reveals serious craftsmanship. And our time-honored hand-glazing methods produce a nuanced range of color with depth and translucence.
